Taylor Architects
in association with Richard Murphy Architects, Edinburgh.
Railwalk is a unique residential scheme comprising of
23 units, ranging from 2-bed apartments to 3-bed and 4-bed
houses.
It is situated a ten-minute walk from Westport Town centre,
on the edge of the disused railway line.
The project is composed with two curved blocks positioned
in a convex relationship, the form being generated by
the gentle curve of the railway line and hence site boundary.
The two curves frame and focus on the dominant mass of
Croagh Patrick, making the landscape the third element
of the composition. The landscape between the two curved
blocks is designed to unite the composition to create
a definite sense of 'place'.
We offer this as an alternative to the rather anonymous
housing estate projects that are currently prevailing
throughout Ireland.
