This project involved the renovation, extension and
conversion of an 1863 physiatric hospital complex to
a third level educational facility. Our architectural
approach was to insert modern architectural elements
into the fabric of the existing complex in such a manner
that the modern and the original fabric contrast in
colour, texture and form, to the enrichment of each
other.
We believe that this strikes a balance between respect
for the protected structure status of the original building,
while achieving a modern architectural language.
